Walter Gilbert
Today is the brithday of Dr. Walter Gilbert (b 1932) a noted chemist and one of the founding fathers of modern molecular biology. Dr. Gilbert was awarded the 1980 Nobel Prize in Chemistry (along with Sanger and Berg) for their pioneering work into determining nucleotide sequences. The work on nucleotide sequencing has led to much of the modern genetics revolution and our understanding of modern biology. Dr. Gilbert continues to be active in biology and has founded a number of biotech companies.
