New Features on website for WS09
Over the break I moved all of my web materials to my own domain (docireland.org). The movement of materials also allowed for some new and upgraded features. The first is with the layout of the materials. Each class is divided into new units which have their own webspace. The unit pages are divided into sections for core questions, vocabulary, multimedia, and reading questions. Some of you may disagree with this new direction as it takes away the old outlines and study guides that I used to provide, but I would argue that these materials are more complete yet allow you the ability to make deeper connections with the work.
The second major change are the podcasts. At the end of last semester I started to podcast all my lectures and I plan on continuing the practice this year. Do not take these podcast as a 1:1 substitute for coming to class, but rather as a way for you to catch the parts you miss or clarify through repitition.
The third major addition is the class discussion board. While it is possible to run a discussion board on JetNet, I prefer to keep all of my resources in my own webspace. This is a standard discussion board and will be both a tool for students to help each other and an avenue for alternative exercises. The discussion board will be integrated over the course of the semester.
The last major change is the class email. While I still have my JCC account I have added a new address specifically for students on my own domain with a hopefully easy to remember name (bio@docireland.org).
I hope these changes help all of you this semester.
