Biography: Dr. Abdul-Rahman completed his medical school and pediatrics residency at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. Subsequently, he trained in clinical genetics at Stanford University. Dr. Abdul-Rahman returned to Mississippi to begin his academic career and spent 12 years serving in various roles including division chief of medical genetics and interim chair of the department of pediatrics. He then moved to Omaha, Nebraska to serve as the director of the department of genetic medicine at the Munroe-Meyer Institute, part of the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Abdul-Rahman served in that role for over five years, developing a number of clinical programs and supporting the establishment of a newly accredited genetic counseling training program. As a person who enjoys developing new collaborations and building programs, he was drawn to the opportunity at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital to expand the reach of genetics across the health system.Dr. Abdul-Rahman sees a broad range of patients, including prenatal, pediatric, and adult patients with various genetic conditions. He has worked in clinics serving patients with craniofacial anomalies, differences of sexual development, and bone fragility disorders in addition to general genetics clinics seeing patients of all ages; Dr. Abdul-Rahman enjoys the diversity of patients and disorders in his practice. He is also very interested in evaluating children with possible fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) and has worked on a number of educational and research projects related to FASD both in the US and abroad collaborating with the NIAAA and the WHO.

Biography: Tessa Rootenberg is a clinical genetic counselor in the Division of Medical Genetics at Weill Cornell Medicine. She completed her genetic counseling graduate education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and is ABGC board-certified. Her Master's thesis investigated parental attitudes toward whole exome sequencing in autism spectrum disorders and co-occurring epilepsy.  She is a member of the multidisciplinary Klinefelter Syndrome Care Center at Weill Cornell Medicine and enjoys supervising genetic counseling graduate students.

Biography: <p>I am a genetics specialist at Memorial Healthcare System. I care for patients with complex genetic disorders and use advanced genetic testing to find the cause and, when possible, treatment. I also work with patients with genetic syndromes, neurological disorders with a genetic cause, and have a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of lipid-related genetic disorders.</p> <p>I was drawn to genetics and genomics because I recognized that our genes hold the answers that many patients and families facing undiagnosed conditions are looking for. As the tests and tools become more complex, they require more expertise to interpret but also cover many conditions we previously could not diagnose.</p> <p>Each day, I look forward to doing my best for my patients and their families. I listen carefully to what they tell me and use all my experience and the most current genetic testing out there to obtain a diagnosis and possibly treatment. Armed with this critical information and support, I help them to move forward.</p> <p>I am also certified by the National Lipid Association in clinical lipidology and am interested in applying genomics to enhance treatments via pharmacogenetics, which is the understanding of how our genes influence the way our bodies respond to drug therapies.</p> <p>In addition to working with patients and their families, I publish many articles on genetics and am involved with clinical research on pharmacogenetics.</p>
